A Poll. About Actresses. Best Actresses.

In the last poll, which was posted shortly before Halloween, I asked you what is the scariest movie you’ve ever seen.  I didn’t bother making a comprehensive list since this subject seems to be so relative.  I threw the first few scary movies I could think of and posted the thing.  Perhaps it’s the way that I framed the poll, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the majority of you, 42% feel that Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is the scariest film ever.  My vote fell under this choice as well.  Jack Torrence is terrifying, and this is one of a very, very small hand full of films that had me unnerved after the thing was over.  Glad to see some of you felt the same way!

Also surprising was the Spanish film [REC] which took second with about 16% of the vote.  Also a movie that messes me up.

There was one vote (5%) for Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Six of you choose other and listed the following movies: two mentions for The Exorcist, two for Ringu. Andd one mention for the Thai film ShutterMothman Prophecies (?), The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Poltergeist.

Thanks for voting everyone!

This next question is about the last Oscars.  Particularly the Best Actress category.  It’s my firm believe that the only reasoning behind Bullock’s win is that Academy had its head so far up its own ass it couldn’t tell up from down.  And I’m even a fan of her’s!  So, who do you think should have won?

  1. Yo Dude, tried to find somewhere else to post this on the site but no cigar… sorry!

    Not a spam message.

Looking to get as many movie bloggers as possible involved in James Bond January. If those films are your bag, more info on the following post.

I voted for Gabourey Sidibe as I thought her performance was astounding and better than Carey Mulligan’s. I didn’t see The Last Station though. Precious wasn’t the best movie, but Gabourey Sidibe was awesome.

I’m stil stunned by Bullock’s best actress win. That part wasn’t really all that memorable, and Sandy wasn’t exactly overdue…one day I’ll need to figure out the math as to how this happened.

Out of the nominees, Bullock was my favourite (Gaby was awesome but I didn’t think it was Oscar-worthy – don’t hit me!)

Emily Blunt in The Young Victoria was my favourite leading actress performance of the year

@ Paragraph – I’ll try and get this reposted soon. Not a huge bond fan myself, but I’ll pass the word along.

@ Will – I’m inclined to feel the other way around when it comes to those two. Although seeing how different Gabourey is in person (in interviews on late nite shows and the such), it is pretty remarkable how she transformed herself.

@ Mad Hatter – I feel exactly the same way. Maybe the Academy felt bad they overlooked her performance in….Speed? Maybe Murder by Numbers?

@ filmgeek – There’s no hitting allowed here. And I agree. Blunt’s performance was probably the most overlooked of the year.
