Beasts of the Southern Wild (Making Of)
Even though Sundance was eight months ago, Beasts of the Southern Wild is still fresh in my mind. It’s an incredibly memorable film and I continue to follow it’s trajectory with great interest. With it’s win at Sundance, and later receiving the Camera d’Or, I can’t help but wonder what will happen come awards season. I’ve avoided going to see the film a second time only because of the law of diminishing returns.
Besides the film’s power and imagination, what makes it especially interesting is the inexperienced cast a crew. Many non-professional actors were used, and even writer/director Benh Zeitlin’s was a rookie, having only worked on a few shorts before. A ten minute mini-documentary is traveling around the internet today, and it really is worth a watch if you loved the movie, or even if you didn’t, it’s still interesting, Zeitlin comments are particularly time-worthy.
If you have not seen Beasts you probably have the opportunity right now as it’s most likely playing near you. Really, go see this one.
