I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks The Social Network sounds like lots of crap layered on top of a sewerage plant. I hadn’t really considered that Fincher’s work had diminished since Fight Club but you’re right – it has – and The Social Network sounds and looks like another very average piece of work by a once very talented director.

@ M. Carter – I think somebody just got a script idea…

@ Steve – I always think of Panic Room as being a decent film. But then when I think of Fincher directing it, it raises my expectations a ton, and the film seems more disappointing. Here’s hoping he get a project soon where he has full artistic control.

He has been fully Nic Caging himself! See, I always felt he had to make me forget Panic Room, but yeah, Benjamin Button took things to a whole new level. I’m not sure what his endgame is but Social Network seems like the kind of film a director makes for a studio in exchange for being able to do his own thing later. Let’s just hope things are as they seem.

Oh good — someone else who didn’t think “Benjamin Button” was the best movie ever made! I liked it, but dear lord it was long — I feel like I’m still watching it! Brad Pitt didn’t deserve an Oscar nom for that performance, either. His MAKE-UP artists did, but he didn’t.

That said, I’m pretty curious about this Facebook film. I have this picture in my mind that it will be like Facebook meets “Se7en.”

i’m not holding my breath that ‘the social network’ will be the movie that brings him back into my good graces.

geez, when even the truly talented directors can’t make a good movie it makes me worry about the state of hollywood….

@ Shubhajit Lahiri – It was a poor choice to not mention Zodiac. That movie was effective as crap.

@ Anna – I hate Facebook so much. The movie better be better than the website.

@ moviesandsongs365 – I just checked JT’s IMDb page, and it turns out that no, he’s never made a good movie. Unless you count Black Snake Moan which seemed to be more polarizing than praised.

Has Justin Timberlake ever made a good movie? him in it doesn’t bode well for me

The teaser looks interesting, but I am a little sceptical when you don’t see any actual scenes.

Too bad Fincher has been kind of washed-up after Fight Club, hopefully this is his comeback to greatness.

I agree, Benjamin Button was a bit of a downer, especially coming from the guy who made such gritty, noirish & violent thrillers like the ones you mentioned, and also Zodiac.
