It’s the sadist in me.

Ever since 2008′s Sundance Film Festival, I’ve been excited about Downloading Nancy. Director Johan Renck’s first feature length film (although he did a video for Madonna, and a bitchin’ episode of Breaking Bad).  And it’s got Maria Bello.  Awesome.

It’s finally been announced that it will see a limited release this summer.  But none of the announced locations are anywhere near me (click here to see if you’re lucky enough to live near where it’s showing).  I’m sure Salt Lake City will get it eventually, but I want to see it sooner than ‘eventually.’  If you’ve got a strong stomach, watch this first trailer.  It doesn’t say so, but it’s definitely a Red Band.  If you want the PG-13 version, watch the the screen below that one.  And finally, below those two, is an exclusive clip from the movie that Hulu just posted today.

I saw this one at Sundance in ’08. The problem with this movie isn’t that it’s shocking; it’s that it is artifically shocking. Variety’s review got it right: http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=festivals&jump=review&id=2559&reviewid=VE1117935894

I don’t know how I missed this comment, Mitch. Too bad it’s not that great. The trailer (I know it’s a taboo to judge by a trailer) showed great promise. The Variety review was quite disheartening.
