Library Loot

library-lootIf you remember from last week’s Library Loot, I had hit a wall when it came to watching movies. I thought TV on DVD would be the cure, and I’m a little embarrassed to say that I finished fifteen hour long episodes of My So-Called Life, fifteen hour long episodes of True Blood, and twelve episodes of Extras in 4 days. Mind you, much of this was done at work. You wouldn’t believe how fast a ten hour shift goes when watching True Blood.

When it came to My S0-Called Life, I was pretty darn entertained.  There were a couple episodes where the ‘after school special’ feel was so in your face, I wanted to dry heave.  For example, the CRAZY, unorthodox substitute that got all the kids (even the Latinos with earrings!!) interested in writing, only to find out the school wouldn’t tolerate it.  Or the episode where Angela debates for forty five minutes about whether to give it up to Jordan Catalano (who wouldn’t give it up to Jordan freakin’ Catalano?), but ends up keeping her V card and her dignity.  But over all, I enjoyed it.  It was really well written, Claire Danes is fantastic, and I was actually pretty bummed by the sudden, abrupt end of the series.

True Blood didn’t disappoint for most of the season.  I was a little let down by the last few episodes where it seemed to jump the shark, but it was shot really well, the acting was great.  I thought I wouldn’t be able to deal with Anna Paquin’s southern drawl, but it actually worked out quite nicely.  I really wish I had been watching season two all along, but it seems that I’ll have to wait for the DVD, unless anyone wants to let me come over and watch it on your TiVo.

Extras made me laugh a ridiculous amount. The episode with Daniel Radcliffe may be the funniest thirty minutes of TV I’ve ever seen.  I’ve been walking around for days saying, ‘is he ‘avin’ a laugh?’  If you haven’t seen this series, watch it.  You won’t be sorry.

Here’s this week’s loot.

Seems like it’s been ages since you posted dude – where ya been?

Glad ya dug ‘Extras’, I always get a giggle when I think about the Patrick Stewart episode.

    “You never watched Star Trek?”
    “…my God.”

Of what you grabbed this week, I’ve only ever seen THIRTEEN, which was pretty good. I’m kinda curious about INFAMOUS, especially in comparison to CAPOTE – which I loved.

I’ve lost some sort of momentum to blog! It’s horrible. And to complicate matters, I haven’t really seen many movies lately. The Patrick Stewart episode was hilarious, I agree. Infamous was actually really good. I had to wait this long to give it some distance from Capote, but it is a completely original film with a whole different take on the whole thing. I’d definitely recommend it.

Perhaps I’ll give INFAMOUS a look sometime soon. In other news, where’d you go about creating that nifty orbiting tag cloud? Me likey!

Wasn’t the abrupt ending to My So Called Life frustrating? I would love it if they reunited and followed up with the characters. I would love to see where the writers would have went with Season 2.

I see that you saw 500 Days of Summer. I got free passes and am seeing it tomorrow. I will read your review after seeing it. 🙂

Mad Hatter, I was just perusing the available plugins for WordPress, and that happened to be one of them. It’s called Theme Cumulus, I don’t know where to get it if you don’t us WP.

Jen, I was seriously bummed by that ending. There were six discs in the set, and the final episode was the last on disc five. I really thought there were more, and was really upset when I popped in disc six and it was just bonus features. Let me know what you thought of 500 Days of Summer! I really liked it.
