Oscar Predictions!

The website Vouchercodes.co.uk is having a competition for film bloggers/critics surrounding the Oscars, and was kind enough to invite me to participate.  I love the Oscars.  And love guessing (correctly) who will win even more.  The competition rules are simple: choose the number of categories you’d like to guess (there’s no penalty for categories not considered), one point for a correct guess, minus one point for a wrong guess.

I thought I’d just go for as many categories as possible, as I’m quite certain I have no chance of winning based on my track record for the past few years.  The only sections I skipped are those where I haven’t seen any, or only one or two of the nominees. So, here they are, my eighteen guesses.

    You didn’t like Star Trek?
Yay for Colin Firth! I really hope he gets the Oscar!

I did a similar thing on my predictions. I did the sure fire winners and my dream winners.

@ Vanessa – I thought Star Trek was just fine, but I feel it doesn’t deserve any Oscar attention.

I’d like to see Carey Mulligan win Best Actress and Fantastic Mr. Fox for Animated, too. I’d also love it if Bright Star won Costume Design, but it’s doubtful.

I’d rather see Anna Kendrick win for Supporting.

Colin Firth was phenomenal in A Single Man, but Bridges has this. I saw both movies within a couple of days of each other and it seems like a coin toss to me. Crazy Heart’s song will win Best Original Song, at least I think so.

I need to whip up my Oscar predictions for my site…show everyone how horrible I am at this!

I think I am finally done watching the Oscars this year. The ten nominees for best picture gimmick is truly horrible. But really, I am just sick of the self-congratulatory circle jerk of Hollywood mediocrity that the Academy Awards are. I can abide Renee Zellweger, and Halle Berry, and Nicole Kidman, and even Resse fucking Witherspoon winning Oscars, but when Sandra Bullock starts taking home trophies, the entire thing has gone way too far.

  8. In a perfect world, Colin Firth might win. In this world, my money’s on Jeff Bridges. But I wouldn’t be upset if anyone in this category won, really. Loved Bridges, loved Clooney, loved Renner … you get the picture.

And I have this nagging sense of dread that “Avatar” is going to take Best Picture although like you I really, really want “Hurt Locker” to take it. (I’ve accepted that “Inglourious Basterds” doesn’t have much of a shot.)
