Library Loot
It’s that time again. Time to visit the library. Although, I must confess that I’m trying to take more advantage of my NetFlix account. So from now on, the library loot will actually consist of my NetFlix for the week as well as the stuff I check out. Port of Call was certainly a solid film. But it was almost unrecognizable as a Bergman film. It was like watching Kurbick’s earlier stuff like The Killing. It’s okay,... Read More

I really debated about whether or not to do Library Loot this week, seeing as tomorrow’s Christmas Eve, family is arriving, and there’s gifts to be gifted, received. But I thought why not. So I got a smaller loot this time, and hopefully will be able to find the time between among all the holiday merriment. Here’s the down low about last week’s loot: Benny’s Video was really well done. It made me feel terrible,... Read More

I get a big FAIL on Library Loot this week. I only managed to watch three out of the seven films I chose. Of course, I did manage to watch others. But those picks were influenced almost exclusively by the crowd I was watching them with. They were: Julie & Julia, The Squid and the Whale, Shopgirl, and Ratatouille. I also finally managed to watch Traffic after having owned it for four years and never seeing it all the way through. I don’t... Read More

I barely finished this week’s loot, and it was only by the skin of my teeth. This weekend was full of parties, hit-and-run accidents (I was the victim), police reports, Christmas tree hunting, and the likes. Which didn’t leave very much time for movies. I did, however, managed to get through all eight. All the President’s Men would claim the top spot as my favorite of the week, if it weren’t for Winter Light. Usually,... Read More

Despite spending a few days over the holiday weekend helping my Mom pack up to move to California, I managed to watch all ten of last week’s loot. I have no idea what I’m going to do when I get a grownup job and can’t watch them at work. I’ll try and be brief since there were so many. Chinatown wasn’t that great in my opinion. I just wasn’t entertained and I really just wanted it to be over, but it kept going... Read More

Last week’s loot was quite enjoyable. There wasn’t a single film that felt like work to get through. The Apartment was one of the films assigned for November for the 1001 Film Club. It was definitely a film outside of my usual genres and eras, but I’m definitely glad I saw it. You can see my review here. The Conversation was really intriguing. You’d think that a spy movie (this term is misrepresentative of the film,... Read More

Last week’s loot was freaking enormous if you include the additions I added Saturday morning. And believe it or not I got through all of them but one, I didn’t quite get to Wild Strawberries. I probably would have, but The Silence took all the wind out of my Ingmar Bergman sails. It’s the first Bergman film that really just bored me. It was really, really boring. And it was so ambiguous that I couldn’t manage to glean... Read More
More loot
I must be in rare dysfunctional form, because I got through Wednesday’s loot by Saturday morning. And that includes the five hour mini-series Scenes from a Marriage. So I ran back to the library to grab the following movies to get me through until next Wednesday: Read More
Library Loot!
Last weeks loot has to be the best batch of movies I’ve ever brought home from the library. They were all great. Although, I didn’t quite get to The Apartment. There wasn’t a loser in the bunch. I’m glad to have finally seen Annie Hall. And I’ll now join the throngs of people who love it. While I’ll always love Match Point and Vicky Cristina Barcelona, it’s clear that Annie is the best of his films... Read More

I knew I was overly ambitious when I checked out seven dense films. Alright, Black Christmas isn’t really dense, but the others were definitely challenging to watch. Which is why I didn’t get through all of them. I did get to see The 39 Steps, which I can appreciate, but I wasn’t blown away by it. Whatever made it worthy of The Criterion Collection was lost on me. Still, a decent film noir flick and it makes me want to see... Read More
