I feel like I’ve really accomplished something, although that’s kind of ridiculous. I enjoyed it, to my surprise. From what I had heard, it sounded like something I’m not quite ready to fully appreciate yet.  And I’m sure I don’t.  But at least I can honestly say I enjoyed it.  Well, enjoyed the last half when I finally understood what was really going on.

Understanding 8 1/2 sheds new light on Rob Marshall’s upcoming remake, Nine, that’s based on the stage musical that’s based on Fellini’s original.  Headlining the likes of Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz just to name a few,  it promises to be, well, something I guess.  But musicals are campy.  Campy and a little inaccessible to me.  And Marshall, who did the overrated Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha, doesn’t seem to have have the junk required to remake a celebrated masterpiece.

There’s no doubt it’ll be an awards favorite.  And I guess I should hold off judgement until I’ve mustered the courage to watch it at a public theatre, but I definitely don’t have high hopes for this project.

The one bright, silver lining is that Fergie, (yes Fergie, the one who wet herself on stage) will be playing this charming gal:
